Coming from the south

Char Dham from Bangalore — what South Indian pilgrims should know

The cold is real

Bengaluru rarely drops below 15°C; Kedarnath and Badrinath are near freezing at night even in June. Pack thermals, a warm jacket, woollen cap, gloves and socks — more than feels necessary at home.

Altitude, gently

You land at 600 metres and climb to over 3,000 metres within days. Our plan rests you a night in Dehradun and builds height slowly. Drink water, eat light and tell the driver about any headache.

Food on the route

Meals are North Indian vegetarian — dal, rice, roti, sabzi. Idli and dosa are easy to find in Rishikesh and Haridwar but rare higher up. Tell us your needs and we ask hotels for rice-based, less spicy meals; carrying ready-to-eat podi or upma packs helps.

Language

Drivers and hotel staff speak Hindi and basic English. Our Dehradun office stays in touch on WhatsApp in English throughout, so you are never stuck.

Walk before you fly

Start brisk walks and stairs 6–8 weeks ahead; aim to walk 8–10 km comfortably. It makes Yamunotri and Kedarnath far easier.

Cash and network

Carry cash — ATMs thin out beyond Uttarkashi. Jio and BSNL work best; signal is patchy in the valleys and at Kedarnath.

Parents and grandparents

Char Dham from Bangalore for senior citizens

The direct flight is the biggest help for older parents: one 3-hour flight, no change in Delhi, and our driver waiting at arrivals. Gangotri and Badrinath are reached by car. At Yamunotri and Kedarnath, seniors usually take a pony, a palki, or the Kedarnath helicopter. Tell us everyone's age when you enquire and we choose flight timings, pace and rooms around the eldest traveller. Pilgrims over 55 are screened at health points on the route, so a check-up with your doctor and a fitness certificate are wise.

Questions

Char Dham Yatra from Bangalore — questions, answered

What is the cost of the Char Dham Yatra from Bangalore with flights?
It depends on your dates, because flight fares change, and on your group size — WhatsApp +91 73517 07071 for one exact figure. As a guide, our 10-day Char Dham Yatra package from Dehradun is from ₹32,000 per person (four sharing) plus 5% GST, and direct Bengaluru–Dehradun fares were seen from about ₹8,500–12,000 each way when booked early.
Is there a direct flight from Bangalore to Dehradun?
Yes. About three direct flights a day run from Bengaluru's Kempegowda Airport to Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport on IndiGo and Air India Express, taking about 3 hours. In September 2026 they included IX 1506 at 09:15, 6E 852 at 15:10 and IX 1527 at 16:45.
Which is the best flight from Bangalore for the Char Dham Yatra?
The morning Air India Express flight (around 09:15, landing about 12:20) gives you an easy afternoon and a full night's rest in Dehradun before the drive to Barkot. The afternoon IndiGo flight also works, landing around 18:05.
How many days are needed for Char Dham Yatra from Bangalore?
12 days and 11 nights, Bengaluru to Bengaluru: a travel day each way by direct flight and the 10-day yatra in between, with an arrival night in Dehradun and a closing night in Haridwar.
Should I fly to Dehradun or Delhi from Bangalore?
Dehradun. The direct flight lands 20 minutes from our office and at the start of the route, saving a long drive or a second journey from Delhi. Fly to Delhi only if Dehradun fares are unusually high on your date — we can pick up there too.
Is there a direct train from Bangalore to Haridwar?
There is no regular daily direct train; the journey takes about two days even when special trains run. Most pilgrims from Bangalore fly direct to Dehradun, or take a train to Delhi and the Shatabdi or Vande Bharat on to Haridwar or Dehradun.
What is the Char Dham Yatra cost for a family of 4 from Bangalore?
The yatra itself is ₹1,28,000 for four (₹32,000 each, four sharing) plus 5% GST, joining at Dehradun. Add return flights for four and the arrival and closing nights for the full Bangalore price — send us your dates for one exact figure.
Do you book the flights for us?
Yes, on our Bangalore-to-Bangalore package we book your return flights on timings that fit the plan. If you prefer to book your own, take our 10-day package from Dehradun and we meet your flight at Jolly Grant.
Is South Indian food available on the Char Dham route?
Mostly the food is North Indian vegetarian. Idli and dosa are easy to find in Rishikesh and Haridwar but rare in the mountains. Tell us your preferences and we ask hotels for rice-based, less spicy meals; many pilgrims also carry ready-to-eat packs.
Is the Char Dham Yatra difficult for pilgrims from South India?
The treks at Yamunotri and Kedarnath and the cold nights are the main challenges. Walk regularly for 6–8 weeks before, pack proper warm clothes, and use a pony, palki or helicopter if needed. Our plan builds altitude slowly after a rest night in Dehradun.
Is the Char Dham Yatra from Bangalore suitable for senior citizens?
Yes. The direct 3-hour flight with no change in Delhi makes it much easier. Gangotri and Badrinath are reached by car; at Yamunotri and Kedarnath, seniors usually take a pony, palki or helicopter. Pilgrims over 55 should carry a medical fitness certificate.
How far is Jolly Grant Airport from the Char Dham route?
Jolly Grant is about 25 km from Dehradun, 20 km from Rishikesh and 35 km from Haridwar — right at the start of the yatra. Our driver meets you at arrivals.
When does the Char Dham Yatra 2026 close?
Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath close around 10–11 November 2026, and Badrinath a little later. The exact dates are announced on Vijayadashami. For a 12-day trip, the last departures from Bangalore leave by the end of October.
When does the Char Dham Yatra 2027 start?
Yamunotri and Gangotri open on Akshaya Tritiya, expected on 8 May 2027. Kedarnath's date is announced on Mahashivratri and Badrinath's on Basant Panchami; both usually open within days. Book flights early for May and June, when fares are highest.
What is the best time for Char Dham Yatra from Bangalore?
Mid-May to June and September to October. September and October have clearer views, smaller crowds and usually lower flight fares than May and June. Avoid July and August.
Is registration required, and do you do it?
Yes, registration is compulsory and free for every pilgrim on the Uttarakhand portal, registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in. We register your whole group — just send each traveller's Aadhaar and a photo.
Is the Kedarnath helicopter included?
No. Kedarnath helicopter tickets are sold only on the official IRCTC HeliYatra website after registration. 2026 round-trip fares were about ₹6,390 from Sersi, ₹10,160 from Phata and ₹12,760 from Guptkashi. We plan your day around your flight.
Can we do only Kedarnath and Badrinath from Bangalore?
Yes. Fly to Dehradun and join our 6-day Kedarnath Badrinath yatra, from ₹19,500 per person, with pickup at Jolly Grant Airport.
What should we pack coming from Bangalore?
Thermals, a warm jacket, woollen cap, gloves and socks, a rain poncho, walking shoes with good grip, a torch, a power bank, basic medicines with prescriptions, and cash. Nights at Kedarnath and Badrinath are near freezing even in summer.
What if our flight is delayed or cancelled?
Our driver tracks your flight and waits. If a flight is cancelled, our Dehradun office reworks the plan and hotels. Extra costs caused by airline changes, landslides or weather are not included in the package.
How do we book, and how much advance do you take?
WhatsApp or call us on +91 73517 07071. A 30% advance of the total package cost confirms your yatra, and the balance is due at least 7 days before departure. You deal with us directly — we book the hotels and the driver ourselves.
Can we postpone or cancel?
You can postpone free of charge with at least 30 days' notice, subject to hotel availability; airline tickets follow the airline's own rules. The 30% advance is non-refundable; beyond that, cancellation charges are a percentage of the total package cost, deducted from what you have paid.
