Getting there
How do you reach Darjeeling?
By air: Bagdogra Airport near Siliguri is the gateway, with direct flights from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Darjeeling is about 3–3.5 hours away by road, Gangtok about 4–5 hours.
By train: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in Siliguri is the main railhead, on direct trains from Delhi and Kolkata.
Getting around: your private car meets you at Bagdogra or NJP. In Sikkim, trips to Tsomgo Lake, Nathula and North Sikkim must use locally registered permit vehicles, as state rules require — we arrange them.

What should you know before a Darjeeling trip?

Carry your ID and photos
Permits for Tsomgo, Nathula and North Sikkim need ID and passport-size photos for every traveller.
Respect the altitude
Tsomgo, Nathula and Gurudongmar are very high. Go slowly, drink water and check with your doctor if you have heart or breathing problems.
Layers, always
Even in summer, Tiger Hill at dawn and Tsomgo Lake are cold. Carry a warm jacket, gloves and a cap.
Early starts
Tiger Hill means leaving at about 4 am, and Nathula permits mean leaving Gangtok early.
Plastic and smoking rules
Sikkim bans many single-use plastics, and MG Marg is a no-smoking, no-littering zone.
Allow for the roads
Landslides can close roads in the monsoon. Keep a spare half-day at the end of your trip.

How many days are enough for Darjeeling?

What time is the Tiger Hill sunrise trip?
You leave at about 4 am to reach the viewpoint before sunrise. It is cold all year at dawn — carry a warm jacket.
Darjeeling or Gangtok — which is better?
Darjeeling for tea gardens, the toy train and colonial charm; Gangtok for monasteries, MG Marg and the snow at Tsomgo Lake. Most of our tours include both.
Do we need a permit for Darjeeling?
No — Darjeeling and Kalimpong are in West Bengal and need no permit. Permits apply only to Tsomgo Lake, Nathula and North Sikkim on our combined Sikkim tours.
Is November or December better for Darjeeling?
November has the clearest skies and quieter roads after the Puja holidays. December is colder, with a chance of snow at Tsomgo Lake and in North Sikkim; Christmas to New Year is priced separately.
Is the toy train running now?
Yes — special Darjeeling–Ghum joyrides run from 1 October 2026 for the Puja season. Tickets are extra and sell out early, so tell us when you book.
Which is better for families, Darjeeling or Gangtok?
Both suit families. Darjeeling has the toy train, the zoo and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute; Gangtok has the ropeway, MG Marg and the snow at Tsomgo Lake. The Darjeeling Kalimpong Gangtok tour gives you both with short drives.
Can a Darjeeling tour work as a honeymoon?

Can we see Kanchenjunga from Darjeeling?

From Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station in Siliguri — about 70 km and 3 to 3.5 hours below Darjeeling. Your car meets you there.
Is Darjeeling safe for tourists?
Yes. The usual care applies: hill roads are slower in the monsoon, when landslides can close them, and Tiger Hill is cold before dawn.
Can we add Mirik to a Darjeeling tour?
Yes — Mirik’s lake and pine forests sit on the road between Siliguri and Darjeeling, and fit into an arrival or departure day.
Are meals included on the Darjeeling tour?
Breakfast and dinner are included daily. Lunch is on your own, on the road or in town — try momos and thukpa. Vegetarian and Jain meals are available on request.

What if a road in the Darjeeling hills is closed by a landslide?
Hill roads here can close for hours or days, especially in the monsoon and after heavy snow. We reroute or swap the day where we can; extra costs caused by road closures are not included in the package.
