The one thing to decide before anything else
Himachal Pradesh is not one destination. It is a state the size of a small country, and its hill stations sit hours apart on mountain roads. Shimla to Manali is eight to ten hours. Manali to Dharamshala is a full day. Delhi to Dalhousie is closer to thirteen.
Which means the real question is not "which places should I see" — it is how many days do you have, and how many of them are you willing to spend in a car. Get that right and everything else falls into place. Get it wrong and you spend a holiday looking at the back of a headrest.
One hill station in four days is a holiday. Three hill stations in four days is a road trip you did not sign up for.

One more thing worth saying plainly: our branch office is in Tibetan Colony, Manali. Most companies selling Himachal packages operate entirely from Delhi. When a pass closes, a permit stalls or a hotel disappoints, the difference between a local office and a helpline is the difference between a fixed problem and an apology.

Prices marked "pp" are per person on twin sharing; the honeymoon package is quoted per couple, as those normally are. All exclude 5% GST. Rates move with season — Christmas, New Year and the May–June school holidays are the dearest weeks, February and September the best value.

This is the fastest way to narrow twelve packages down to one or two. Days below are counted door to door from Delhi, including travel.

If it is your first trip to Himachal, Shimla and Manali together is the standard answer and a good one. If you have been before, or you want somewhere that is not full in May, Dharamshala and Dalhousie are the better trip and almost nobody suggests them.

For trips of four days or fewer we usually suggest the overnight Volvo in at least one direction — it converts a wasted travel day into a night's sleep. Bhuntar and Gaggal are small hill airports with limited daily flights and genuine weather sensitivity, so never make one your only way home before something you cannot miss.

Snow is weather, not a booking. Nobody can promise it and anyone who does is guessing. What we can tell you is which weeks are historically most likely and where to go once you are here.
Before you go
Practical things worth knowing
Heater charges are real
Many Himachal hotels bill room heaters separately in winter, typically per night. It is a small amount but it surprises people. Ask whether your package includes it, and tell us if you are travelling with a baby or an elderly parent so we can confirm heating in writing beforehand.
Where your hotel actually is
The cheapest Himachal packages place you 8–10 km outside town — Prini or Patlikuhal near Manali, well down the ridge from Shimla. It sounds minor until you need a car every time you want dinner. Ask for the hotel name and check it on a map before you book, with us or with anyone.
Rohtang needs a permit
Rohtang Pass runs on a daily vehicle quota, closes every Tuesday for maintenance, and is open only from around May to November. The Atal Tunnel needs no permit and runs all year. If you want snow rather than the pass itself, the tunnel and Solang are more reliable answers.
Plan around the drives
Himachal roads are almost continuous bends. Carry motion-sickness tablets if anyone is prone to it, and do not book an evening flight out of Delhi on your last day — the drive down from Manali alone runs to twelve hours.
What to pack
Layers in every season — it drops sharply after dark at 2,000 metres even in June. Winter needs thermals, a heavy jacket, gloves and waterproof boots. Snow gear for Solang can be rented on the day rather than bought. Sunscreen and sunglasses matter more than people expect at altitude.
Carry photo ID
Hotels across Himachal require government photo ID at check-in for every adult guest. Carry originals plus a photocopy each — it is checked properly, not waved through.

Himachal tour questions, answered
How much does a Himachal tour package cost?
From ₹12,000 per person for a four-day Manali trip and ₹14,000 per person for a six-day Shimla Manali trip, both from Delhi with a private car, hotels and meals. Honeymoon packages start from ₹37,500 per couple for six nights. Prices move with season and group size, and 5% GST is extra. Very low quotes elsewhere are usually land-only packages that exclude transport from Delhi — check the start point before comparing.
How many days do I need for Himachal?
Four days for one hill station by road, six for two, seven if you want to break the return drive with a night in Chandigarh. Anything under four days really needs overnight Volvo or air travel, otherwise most of the trip is the journey. The table above breaks this down by the days you have.
Which is better, Shimla or Manali?
Different trips. Shimla is a colonial town on a ridge — walkable, easy, good for families with small children or elderly parents, and only seven hours from Delhi. Manali is a mountain town with the best snow, the most adventure sport and the high passes behind it, but it is ten to twelve hours away. If you want snow or activity, Manali. If you want to walk a lot and drive a little, Shimla.
Can I do Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala in one trip?
Only with eight days or more, and honestly we would suggest not doing it even then. Manali to Dharamshala is a full day's drive on top of everything else. Two hill stations in a week is a holiday; three is a road trip. If you want Dharamshala and Dalhousie, they pair naturally with each other rather than with Manali.
What is the best time to visit Himachal Pradesh?
March to June for clear weather and green valleys, October and November for thin crowds and the best value of the year, December to February for snow. July to September is the monsoon, when landslides and road closures are a genuine risk across the state, and we generally advise against travelling then.
Will I definitely see snow?
Nobody can promise snow. January and February are the most reliable months, including in the towns themselves. From December to March you can usually find it at Solang Valley or on the Lahaul side of the Atal Tunnel even when Manali town is clear. From April onwards you are relying on the higher slopes. Tell us your dates and we will say honestly what is likely.
Do your packages include flights or train tickets?
No. Our Himachal packages start and end in Delhi, with all road transport, hotels, meals and sightseeing included. You arrange your own travel to Delhi. We can price a version starting from Chandigarh, which is several hours closer to Shimla, if that suits you better.
Are the packages private or group departures?
Private, all of them. Your family or group travels in its own vehicle on its own schedule. We do not pool travellers or run fixed coach departures, which is a real difference on mountain roads where the timing of a stop is most of the day.
Can the itineraries be customised?
Yes, every one of them. Add nights, upgrade hotels, start from Chandigarh, swap a sightseeing day for a free one, add Kasol or Naggar, or extend to Agra. Tell us the days you have and what matters most and we will build around that rather than selling you the nearest fixed package.
Is Himachal suitable for families with young children?
Yes, with one caveat: the driving. Long mountain road days are hard on small children. For families we usually suggest Shimla, which is closest to Delhi, or Manali reached by overnight Volvo or a flight to Bhuntar. Tell us who is travelling and we will say honestly which version suits.
What if roads close or the weather turns?
It happens in Himachal, particularly in winter and monsoon. Our Manali office tracks conditions daily and reroutes as needed. Costs arising from closures, landslides, strikes or weather are not covered in package prices, but you will not be left to sort it out yourself.
