Built by kings
The royal forts on this tour
In 2013 UNESCO listed six Hill Forts of Rajasthan as a World Heritage Site. This tour takes you to three of them — Amber, Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh — and to Mehrangarh, the most dramatic fort in Jodhpur.
Four forts, four stories
1Amber — the Kachwaha palace-fort above Maota Lake, with the mirror-work Sheesh Mahal.
2Chittorgarh — the old Mewar capital, scene of Rani Padmini’s legend and the Tower of Victory.
3Kumbhalgarh — Rana Kumbha’s mountain fort, ringed by a wall about 36 km long.
4Mehrangarh — Rao Jodha’s fort on a sheer rock above the Blue City.
Good to know
•Wear good walking shoes — the forts mean ramps, steps and uneven stone.
•A local guide at each fort is worth it for the history; guide fees are paid on the spot.
•The Kumbhalgarh light and sound show runs in the evening and is paid at the gate.
•The Pushkar Camel Fair (usually October–November) fills Pushkar months ahead.

Families of 3 to 6 travel in an Ertiga or Innova Crysta with family or connecting rooms; groups of 7 or more travel in a Tempo Traveller or several cars, with all rooms in the same hotel. The price per person falls as your group grows — send us your headcount for a quote.
