How to reach Dharamshala and Dalhousie
Train to Pathankot
Overnight trains from Delhi reach Pathankot Cantt in about 8–10 hours, and the Vande Bharat in under 6. Chakki Bank station is also in Pathankot. We pick up at either.
Fly to Kangra (Gaggal)
Kangra airport is 13–15 km from Dharamshala, with flights from Delhi taking about 1.5 hours. Winter fog can delay flights, so keep a buffer. We pick up at the airport.
Overnight Volvo
Buses from Delhi to Dharamshala take about 10–12 hours overnight. We meet you at the Dharamshala bus stand and start from there.

What is the distance from Dharamshala to Dalhousie?

Which is better, Dharamshala or Dalhousie?
They are different, which is why we pair them. Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj are lively, Tibetan and full of cafes; Dalhousie is quiet, colonial and green, with Khajjiar's meadow nearby.
Is Khajjiar worth visiting?
Yes. Khajjiar's deodar-ringed meadow and lake, 22 km from Dalhousie, is the highlight for most travellers. Horse rides, zorbing and paragliding are available there at your own cost.
Is the Tibet Museum open every day?
No. It is open 9 am–5 pm but closed on Mondays and on most Saturdays. The Dalai Lama's temple complex is open daily, though it may close during teachings. We plan McLeod Ganj on a day the museum is open.
What is the best time to visit Dharamshala and Dalhousie?
March to June and September to November for clear weather and views. Late December to February brings snow to McLeod Ganj, Dalhousie and Khajjiar. Avoid July and August, when Dharamshala is one of the wettest places in India.
Does it snow in Dalhousie in December?
Snow usually arrives in late December to February, most reliably in January. Dalhousie, Khajjiar and McLeod Ganj get more snow than lower Dharamshala, but snowfall is never guaranteed.
