The temple lit up after dark and the quiet morning darshan before the day's climbers arrive are the moments pilgrims remember most. You only get them by staying.
Shorter drives before Badrinath
A night in Joshimath breaks the long mountain drive, so you reach Badrinath early in the morning, before the queue builds, with time for Mana village.

An early drive to Badrinath. A dip in the hot Tapt Kund, then darshan of Lord Badri Vishal, with time for Brahma Kapal if your family wants to offer pind daan. On to Mana, 3 km beyond — Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, Bheem Pul over the roaring Saraswati and the last tea shop before Tibet. Then down the valley to Rudraprayag.

Badrinath Temple
The bright painted shrine of Lord Badri Vishal, the Vishnu form in black stone, between the Nar and Narayan peaks. One of the 108 Divya Desams and one of the four dhams set up by Adi Shankaracharya.
Tapt Kund
A natural hot spring just below the temple. Pilgrims bathe here before darshan — the water is warm even when the air is near freezing.
Brahma Kapal
A flat rock on the Alaknanda where families offer pind daan and shraddh for their ancestors. Tell us in advance and we leave time for the ritual.
Mana village
The last village before the Tibet border, 3 km from Badrinath. Vyas Gufa, where the Mahabharata is said to have been dictated, and Ganesh Gufa beside it.
Bheem Pul
A single huge rock across the Saraswati river, said to have been placed by Bheem. The river disappears into the Alaknanda just below.
Mata Murti & Vasudhara
The Mata Murti temple, 3 km from Badrinath, and Vasudhara falls, a 5 km walk beyond Mana, for those with extra time and energy.

Pony, palki and pithu rates are set by the Zila Panchayat, Rudraprayag; helicopter fares by the state, plus GST and a booking fee. Helicopter tickets are sold only on the official IRCTC HeliYatra website after yatra registration — we plan your whole trip around your flight time and drop you at the helipad. Badrinath needs no trek: the car goes to the temple town.

Registration is free — we do it for you
Every pilgrim must register on the Uttarakhand government portal, registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in, or the Tourist Care app. It is free and Aadhaar-linked. Send us each traveller's details and we register your whole group for both dhams.
No phones inside the temples
Under the 2026 rules, mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the Kedarnath temple, and the same rule applies at Badrinath. Lockers are provided nearby — or leave phones with your driver.
Darshan by time slot
Darshan runs in time slots linked to your registration. VIP darshan is limited to official protocol cases, so everyone joins the same queue — staying at Kedarnath lets you go when it is shortest.
No driving at night
Hill roads on the yatra route are closed to vehicles from 10 pm to 4 am. Our day plans are built to reach each stop well before dark.
Documents to carry
Aadhaar card for every traveller, your registration QR pass (printed and on your phone) and your helicopter ticket if flying. Pilgrims over 55 should carry a medical fitness certificate.
What to pack
Warm jacket, thermals, woollen cap and gloves, rain poncho, good walking shoes, torch, water bottle, dry fruits and basic medicines. Kedarnath and Badrinath are cold at night in every month.
Parents and grandparents
Do Dham Yatra for senior citizens
Most of the families who book this yatra with us bring parents or grandparents. Badrinath is reached by car, so the only hard part is Kedarnath — and there are three easy ways to do it: a helicopter from Sersi, Phata or Guptkashi, a pony, or a palki carried by four bearers. The night at Kedarnath means no one is rushed down the same day. Tell us everyone's age when you enquire, and we plan the helipad, the pace and the rooms around the eldest traveller. Pilgrims over 55 are screened at health points on the route, so a check-up with your doctor before travel is wise.

6 days and 5 nights from Dehradun, Haridwar or Rishikesh is the comfortable plan: a day to reach Guptkashi, a day up to Kedarnath with a night at the temple, a day down, a day to Joshimath, a day for Badrinath and Mana, and a day back.
Can Kedarnath and Badrinath be done in 4 or 5 days?
It can, but only by trekking Kedarnath up and down in one day (32 km) or flying by helicopter, and with long drives. Our 6-day plan includes a night at Kedarnath and a night at Joshimath, so no day is rushed. With helicopter tickets, ask us about a shorter plan.
Which should be visited first, Kedarnath or Badrinath?
Traditionally Kedarnath first, then Badrinath, following the Char Dham order from west to east. It also works best on the road: Guptkashi and Kedarnath come first from Rishikesh, and Badrinath is on the way back down the Alaknanda valley.
What is the distance from Kedarnath to Badrinath?
About 220 km by road from Sonprayag (the road head for Kedarnath) to Badrinath via Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Joshimath, which takes 8–10 hours. We break it with a night at Joshimath, 45 km before Badrinath.
Do you pick up from Haridwar and Rishikesh?
Yes. Pickup and drop in Haridwar or Rishikesh are included at no extra cost — railway station, bus stand or your hotel — at the same package price as Dehradun. Jolly Grant Airport pickup is included too.
Do you run the Do Dham yatra from Delhi?
Yes, on request. From Delhi we add a day each way — ask us for the Delhi price. Or take a train or flight to Dehradun, Haridwar or Rishikesh and join the 6-day package, with pickup and drop there at no extra cost.

Badrinath closes in mid to late November 2026, a little after Kedarnath. The exact date and time are announced on Vijayadashami. In winter, Lord Badri is worshipped at the Narsingh Temple in Joshimath and at Pandukeshwar.
When will Kedarnath and Badrinath open in 2027?
Badrinath's 2027 opening date is announced on Basant Panchami at the Narendra Nagar palace, and Kedarnath's on Mahashivratri at Ukhimath. Both usually open in late April or early May. We are already taking 2027 bookings and confirm your dates once they are announced.
Is Kedarnath and Badrinath open now?
Yes. Kedarnath opened on 22 April 2026 and Badrinath on 23 April 2026, and both stay open until November. September and October are excellent months for the Do Dham Yatra.
How long is the Kedarnath trek, and is there a trek at Badrinath?
The official Kedarnath trek from Gaurikund is 16 km each way, 6 to 9 hours up and 4 to 6 hours down. Badrinath has no trek — the car drives right to the temple town, and Mana village is 3 km further by road.
Is helicopter included in the Do Dham package?
No. Helicopter tickets for Kedarnath are sold only on the official IRCTC HeliYatra website after yatra registration. The 2026 round-trip fares are about ₹6,390 from Sersi, ₹10,160 from Phata and ₹12,760 from Guptkashi. We plan the trip around your flight and drop you at the helipad.
Which helipad is best for Kedarnath — Sersi, Phata or Guptkashi?
Sersi is the closest and cheapest, Phata is in between, and Guptkashi is nearest our hotel. Choose whichever has seats on your date — all three are on our route, and your driver takes you there.
What is the pony and palki rate for Kedarnath?
In the 2026 season a pony from Gaurikund to Kedarnath costs about ₹3,500 one way, a pithu from about ₹6,000 and a palki from about ₹9,200, depending on weight. They are paid directly at the official counters at Gaurikund.
Is registration required for Kedarnath and Badrinath?
Yes, registration is compulsory and free for every pilgrim. It is done online at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or the Tourist Care app, or offline at counters in Haridwar, Rishikesh and on the route. We register your whole group for both dhams before you leave.
Are mobile phones allowed inside Kedarnath and Badrinath temples?
No. Under the 2026 rules, phones and cameras are not allowed inside the Kedarnath temple, and the same applies at Badrinath. Lockers are available nearby, or you can leave your phone with the driver.
Is the Do Dham yatra suitable for senior citizens?
Yes. Badrinath is reached by car, and for Kedarnath seniors usually take the helicopter, a pony or a palki. Our plan includes a night at Kedarnath, so no one is rushed. Pilgrims over 55 are screened at health points, so a check-up with your doctor and a fitness certificate are wise.
Where do we stay on the Kedarnath Badrinath yatra?
Two nights at Guptkashi, one night at Kedarnath in a private room just 50 metres from the temple, one night at Joshimath and one at Rudraprayag, all with breakfast and dinner. We book every stay directly.
What is there to see at Badrinath?
The Badrinath Temple, the hot Tapt Kund, Brahma Kapal for pind daan, Narad Kund and Mata Murti temple, and Mana village 3 km away, with Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and Bheem Pul. Vasudhara falls is a 5 km walk beyond Mana.
Can we do pind daan at Brahma Kapal?
Yes. Tell us when you book and we leave time on Day 5 for the ritual at Brahma Kapal. The pandit's dakshina and puja materials are paid directly by you.
Which Panch Prayag do we see on the way?
All five: Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandprayag and Vishnuprayag, the sacred confluences of the Alaknanda with the Bhagirathi, Mandakini, Pindar, Nandakini and Dhauliganga.
What is the best time for the Kedarnath Badrinath yatra?
May to June and September to October. September and October have the clearest views and smaller crowds; July and August bring monsoon rain and landslides.
Can we add Auli, Chopta or Triyuginarayan?
Yes, each adds about a day. Triyuginarayan is near Sonprayag, Chopta and Tungnath are on the Guptkashi–Joshimath road, and Auli is about 13 km above Joshimath. Ask us for the price with your add-on.
What if a road is closed by a landslide?
Our driver waits for the road to reopen or takes an alternative route where one exists, and our Dehradun office rearranges hotels. Extra nights or costs caused by landslides or weather are not included, which is why we avoid July and August where we can.
How far is your Kedarnath hotel from the temple?
About 50 metres — a 2-minute walk. After the trek or your helicopter landing you check in close to the temple, so the evening aarti and the early-morning darshan queue are a short walk away, even in the cold.
What are the Kedarnath and Badrinath temple timings?
Kedarnath usually opens around 4–6 am, closes for bhog around 3–5 pm and stays open until about 8:30–9 pm. Badrinath is usually open about 4:30 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm. Times change with the season and crowds.
Is VIP darshan available at Kedarnath and Badrinath?
In 2026 darshan ran in time slots, with tokens at Kedarnath, and VIP darshan was limited to official protocol cases — everyone joins the same queue. Staying 50 metres from Kedarnath temple lets you go when the queue is shortest.
How do we book Rudrabhishek or a special puja?
Special pujas at Kedarnath and Badrinath, such as Rudrabhishek, are booked through the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC). Tell us which puja you want and we guide you to the official booking.
How do we book a Kedarnath helicopter without being cheated?
Book only on the official IRCTC HeliYatra website after registration, with the same ID you will show at boarding. Never pay a personal UPI ID or bank account for helicopter tickets, and report fraud on 1930.
Is the Kedarnath ropeway open?
Not yet. The 12.9 km Sonprayag–Kedarnath ropeway was approved in March 2025 and is being built. Until then Kedarnath is reached on foot, by pony, palki, pithu or helicopter.
What is the Tapt Kund at Badrinath?
A natural hot spring just below Badrinath temple, on the bank of the Alaknanda. Pilgrims bathe in it before darshan — welcome warmth in the cold.
Where are Kedarnath and Badrinath worshipped in winter?
After the doors close, Lord Kedarnath is worshipped at the Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath, and Lord Badri at the Narsingh Temple, Joshimath and at Pandukeshwar, until the doors reopen in spring.
How cold are Kedarnath and Badrinath?
Cold even in summer. In May and June nights at Kedarnath can drop close to freezing; from late September both dhams are below freezing at night. Carry thermals, a warm jacket, gloves and a cap.
Which is harder, Kedarnath or Badrinath?
Kedarnath, by far — a 16 km climb to 3,583 metres, or a helicopter. Badrinath has a road to the temple town and only a short walk to the shrine.
What is the difference between Do Dham and Char Dham?

Can we postpone or cancel?
You can postpone free of charge with at least 30 days' notice, subject to hotel availability. The 30% advance is non-refundable; beyond that, cancellation charges are a percentage of the total package cost, deducted from what you have paid.
